The research project "KMUdigital" in cooperation with blink.it has been successfully completed. We summarize the five most important results for you that will help your (your) SME get started with e-learning!

Together with four other companies, we asked ourselves how we can support SMEs in the digitalization of their continuing education measures: “What helps small and medium-sized enterprises to integrate e-learning more deeply into their organization?”

Our 5 key insights for e-learning in SMEs:

1. Let your employees create learning videos for their colleagues themselves! We have found that explanatory videos from colleague to colleague are much more impactful than videos from trainers or executives.

2. Learning in the workplace requires a high degree of self-organization! Provide your employees with the opportunity to collaborate in groups and exchange ideas. This makes it easier for them to get started.

3. Try to develop a cross-company learning concept instead of just for one department. This will give you new impulses, and the exchange on specific topics won’t be limited to your own team. This way, problems are solved faster.

4. Blended learning is the perfect entry point as it allows for particularly great flexibility. Offer a good mix of independent theoretical learning in the workplace and practical deepening in presence through blended learning.

5. Since not all companies and employees are at the same level regarding digital continuing education, it is advisable to involve an external facilitator (for example, a consultant or trainer with e-learning experience), especially at the beginning. This ensures that nothing is overlooked.
