E-Learning vs. Blended Learning – Report from #PTT2018

Blended Learning

E-Learning

Trainer

Another highlight of the event took place last weekend in Bonn: At the Petersberger Trainer Days (#PTT2018), Hans-Martin and Michael from blink.it met many successful trainers. Some of them already knew exactly what they were looking for, but many were completely open to new training methods. We observe: For most, blended learning is the concept of the future.

Inspiration at the Petersberger Trainer Days

Despite Michael's illness, a highlight for Hans and Michael at the Petersberger Trainer Days was the open evening on Friday, where they exchanged experiences of the day with trainers and other exhibitors. The exciting thing about such trainer events: Inspiring each other and gaining new ideas through personal exchange. And for us at blink.it, it was particularly nice to meet our shining existing customers again!

The training concept must fit you

How does your software work? – We often hear this question in similar forms at trainer events like the Petersberger Trainer Days. But essentially, it’s about making your needs as a trainer the focus, not the software. In many cases, the trainer’s needs and the software's function overlap; we work on this at blink.it every day.

Just like at the Trainer Congress 2018 in Berlin, there were some trainers at the Petersberger Trainer Days who sought specific information and others who just wanted to expand their horizons. We know: For you as a trainer, it is primarily about discovering and evaluating the concept of blended learning for your training. Only then do you decide how you would like to implement this concept.

In the workshop “Blended Learning: The Training Concept of the Future?” Hans and Michael showed opportunities for trainers to effectively expand their existing events with online support.

What is always important to us: The blink.it platform can be used for both pure online courses (E-Learning) and for the combination of online + presence (Blended Learning). I will therefore give you a brief overview of both methods below.

blink.it for E-Learning

E-Learning is a training method that takes place 100% online. The blink.it software is technically well-suited for this, and especially for short introductory courses or hard skill trainings, E-Learning is certainly a solution that works.

Those who start with E-Learning are often new to the training business: You have an idea or knowledge that you want to make available digitally. However, many trainers begin their careers in further education with in-person events and generally view E-Learning skeptically: After all, they are already successful with their training concepts and do not want to lose the personal connection to their customers and participants.

That's where blended learning comes into play: In the long run, the combination of face-to-face training sessions and online-supported self-study phases is the future model of the continuing education industry; we are convinced of that. Especially in soft skill trainings, a transfer phase after in-person training is worthwhile to allow practitioners to practice their knowledge over a longer period – digitally supported by you as an expert.

The blink.it software is optimized for this purpose: Your participant receives short learning prompts that you can completely plan in advance as a trainer. In case of changes in the course of your in-person event, you can still quickly and promptly adjust settings and, for example, insert a selfie video with your information in between.

As a participant, you are conveniently guided from one learning prompt to the next and can decide for yourself when and how you want to allocate your time for it. Since the prompts should be as short as possible according to the philosophy of blink.it (Microlearning), the participant also has a low barrier to engaging with the training content even alongside the in-person event.

Overview: E-Learning vs. Blended Learning

In the following overview, you will receive a rough impression of whether E-Learning or Blended Learning is basically suitable for your training idea.

| E-Learning with blink.it | | Blended Learning with blink.it || ---------------------------- | ------------------------- | ------------------------------- || Complete Course | Focus Online | Transfer || Hard Skills | Topic Training | Soft Skills and Hard Skills || Advanced | Competence Trainer | Beginners and Advanced || High Autonomy | Competence Participant | Suitable for everyone || Little to none | Personal Support | Available || – | Accompanying Needed | In-person Events |

Of course, every training is individually different. So why not try Blended Learning yourself and take a look at our sample course! There, you will experience blended learning with blink.it from the participant’s perspective and gain a realistic first impression.

If you have questions or suggestions, feel free to leave a message or a comment directly in the sample course.
