What do leaders need to be able to do in the work environment 4.0?

Tip of the Week

Trainer

Do you know the most important leadership competencies for the world of work 4.0? Especially as a leadership trainer, you should be aware of the latest trends. We have summarized the key insights from the University of St. Gallen for you.

For trainers and coaches, leadership training is still one of the most important areas in further education. The Research Institute for Work and Working Worlds at the University of St. Gallen has scientifically analyzed the competency requirements and possible development formats. We have compiled the most important trends in leadership development for you and linked the entire session at the end.

The focus is on the question: Why are the requirements for leaders changing in the world of work 4.0? The institute has identified five triggers that lead to leaders needing new competencies:

Digitalization

For companies, the market entry barriers are changing, and new competitors can seize the market more quickly.

Leaders must closely monitor market changes, recognize the opportunities of digitalization in time, and adjust their actions accordingly.

Dynamization

For companies, dynamization means a change in their own business models. Customer relationships are becoming increasingly important.

Leaders need to better understand customer needs and adapt their services accordingly.

Globalization

For companies, the increasing globalization is primarily associated with growing automation and networking of service processes. Work is becoming significantly more data-driven and requires suitable and reliable software.

Leaders should promote collaboration internally and across functions and also advance exchanges with external partners.

Demographic change

For companies, this change primarily results in a greater variety of target groups and thus also a changed customer experience.

Leaders need to foster the willingness to change among employees and enable innovation and creativity in work.

Value change

For companies, there is an increasing blending of work and private life.

Leaders must now pay more attention to conveying the meaning of work and more frequently delegate responsibility.

These are just a few of the most important insights that the research institute has compiled. On the Institute page of the Uni St. Gallen, you can find more exciting insights into factual, social, and self-competencies for good leaders.
