Contemporary measures for employee retention? With e-learning!

E-Learning

Company

As a personnel manager, you have surely asked yourself the following question: How can I ensure that my employees enjoy working at my company? It doesn't always have to be the well-known benefits! With e-learning, there are numerous additional opportunities that make both employees and management happy, whether in the office or remotely.

Why employee satisfaction is so important

Measures for employee retention are worthwhile for all parties involved. After all, happy employees are better employees and are good for the entire company!

Happy employees …

  • are significantly more productive and satisfied

  • have lower absenteeism or work interruptions

  • thereby increase the company's success

  • ensure a better working atmosphere

  • recommend their employer

  • thereby reduce HR costs

  • generally lead to less turnover

The key to success? Successful measures for employee retention! There are five major areas in which you can increase employee retention and satisfaction:

 Participation

Provide employees with opportunities to actively contribute to the company. The flatter the hierarchies in the company, the more motivated and self-determined employees work. Involve your team in decision-making and conduct regular surveys.

 Communication

Listen to employees and rely on equal communication at eye level. Also promote exchange within the team and network employees with each other. This mainly concerns the appreciation of all team members.

 Organization

Focus on transparency in internal organization! Well-structured processes, clear procedures, and easily accessible information simplify cooperation within the team and the overall company. This also promotes acceptance of new digital solutions.

 Development

Focus on the existing competencies in the team and promote them specifically. Whether hard and soft skills or workplace design – through company outings and further training, you strengthen individual skills and team cohesion. Enable each employee to undertake further training for personal development and benefit from it in daily work life.

 Personal life

Keyword: Work-Life Balance! Employees also have a life outside of work. Therefore, you should respect this and create frameworks for every life situation. Fixed role models and rigid hierarchies must be abolished to allow for more flexibility.

However, it does not always have to be the classics like a company car, holiday and Christmas bonuses, or free drinks and snacks at the workplace. Employee retention can also work independently of location, sometimes even entirely digitally. Best done with a suitable learning platform.

Successful employee retention through e-learning!

Due to COVID-19 and the increasing remote opportunities, additional factors come into play regarding how you can promote employee retention. Given the spatial distance to one's colleagues in the home office, offers for employee retention are all the more important. Digital measures and offers are a good way to make your company as attractive as possible. To ensure that your employee retention measures are also successful remotely, consider the following:

First of all: Identify pain points! This applies to both technical hurdles and content-related barriers. All employees must have easy access to your e-learning platform or LMS. Only then can they use your benefits. At the same time, time capacities must also be created. Talk to team leaders and executives so that they lead by example.

Also, ensure an open and flexible working atmosphere. Every team member should be able to decide when and how they want to participate in measures. Only then do all employees have the opportunity to join appropriate and meaningful e-learnings for their own needs.

The goal of your measures should always be to promote the potentials and strengths of the employees. From this, a stronger bond with their employer will naturally result.

Concrete measures for employee retention with e-learning

Corresponding to the five main areas of employee retention (which I presented to you in the table), you can offer the following digital measures with e-learning:

  1. Feedback: Conduct regular surveys to assess the mood in the team. This way, you can identify friction points and problems in a timely manner and respond.

  2. Further education: Offer online courses for all employees, where they can acquire additional qualifications. Ideally, these should be time- and location-independent.

  3. Mentoring: Cross-team exchange is important. That’s why digital mentoring programs are so popular. Even such learning pairs work digitally!

  4. Competence center: Actively involve employees! E-learnings also help you collect your team's existing knowledge in one place.

  5. Health programs: With e-learnings, you can also offer programs like sports courses, nutrition, and financial advice for a better work-life balance.

  6. Transparency: Use a central chat tool where all team members can communicate with each other on an equal footing.

Measures for employee retention can vary greatly. In addition to classic benefits, digital measures are also a sensible addition to give something back to your employees. Are there already voluntary e-learning offers in your company, or are you just starting out?

In both cases, you need a suitable learning platform on which to offer these digital benefits. If you are looking for a simple and intuitive LMS, you should give blink.it a try!
