The rocket day: This is how the workshop was from the participants' perspective!

E-Learning

Videos

Can I learn how to create the perfect explanatory video in just one day? I asked myself this question during the rocket day in Darmstadt. And I can reveal: Yes, it is possible – and you don't even need prior experience. Find out now how the rocket day was for me and which tips will help you with video shooting!

Explanatory videos are popular for a reason. The content can be learned regardless of time and place, offering the learner a great deal of flexibility. Videos also utilize various learning channels (audiovisual). This makes learning easier for many people, as the content can be better retained. But the biggest advantage is that as a video moderator, you personally accompany your viewers through your learning content! Only in this way do you build a relationship with your course participants. Do you want to motivate your participants to keep going? Then video is the right format for you! Because your motivation in the video transfers to the learners.

You see – there are many reasons why you should rely on explanatory videos! However, the question arises: How do I shoot the perfect learning video?

That is the rocket day

The rocket day is an intensive one-day workshop where you learn how to create professional learning videos – and that with the smallest studio in the world! Have you never recorded an explanatory video before and don’t know where to start? No worries! The rocket day prepares you in three phases to create professional video content for your online courses:

Phase 1: The Preparation

To prepare for the rocket day, you will receive information in advance on planning and preparing learning videos in the form of a blink.it course. Don't have any technical equipment? No problem – we’ll show you how to create professional learning videos on a small budget!

Phase 2: Workshop Day

After you have conceptualized your video in Phase 1, it’s time for practice. Now it’s time to shoot! Benefit from the tips and individual advice of our success expert Claudia Grajek.

No participant has ever left the rocket day without their own professional video!
– Claudia Grajek

The classic workshop day starts at 9 am with an introduction to the topic of video shooting. By the time of the lunch break, all participants will have recorded their first own video. After the break, the videos will then be edited and presented to the others in celebration of the day. So by the end of the rocket day, you won’t just have theoretical knowledge but also your own sample for your next video!

Phase 3: The Follow-up

In line with the blended learning principle, we will unlock further chapters in the blink.it course for you after the rocket day. There you will find the discussed content and tips for review. This way, you can internalize your knowledge again – and even peek for your next video!

My Experiences

The last rocket day took place on December 10, 2022, at our blink.it office in Darmstadt. Workshop leader Claudia Grajek invited us Blinkies to learn more about video shooting on this occasion. Together with two other Blinkies and the external participants, I was able to gather many new experiences. How the workshop day went from my perspective and what tips I want to pass on to you, you will find out now!

The smallest studio in the world

First things first: To shoot professional explanatory videos, you do not need a fully equipped film set. Creating quality videos can be fun even on a small budget. For this, simply transform your own four walls (or the blink.it office) into a studio – with the studio@home. All you need is your smartphone, a microphone, and light.

Tip When Shooting: Be Confident!

Through the other rocket day participants, one thing became very clear to me: The person in front of the camera is the expert. And that is you in this case! Therefore, dare to speak confidently in front of the camera and convince your viewers. Because you know exactly what message you want to convey.

My top tip from Claudia is therefore: Feel what you are saying! Only in this way will you truly connect with your viewers. The first thing they notice is your presence in the video, and only then does the focus shift to the content. Therefore, imagine you are speaking to a person and not to your camera. This keeps your speaking style vibrant, and your text will not sound like you learned it by heart.

Is the rocket day a success?

At first, I asked myself: Is one day enough to learn how to shoot professional videos? Or do I lack the experience for that?

The rocket day showed that through intense and personal support, this goal can definitely be achieved! Of course, it holds true as always: Practice makes perfect. However, at the rocket day, you learn how to appear confident and credible in front of the camera, thereby creating professional video content.

In short: For me, the rocket day was a successful day full of helpful tips that have now motivated me to shoot more videos. I was amazed at what I could learn in such a short time. Certainly, some had to overcome their comfort zone that day, as standing confidently in front of the camera is not easy for everyone. But overcoming that made the learning effect even greater!

Workshop leader Claudia Grajek gives each participant individual tips.

One of my personal highlights was definitely at the end of the day, in a joint closing round, to see the completed videos. Because that motivated me even more to really get started!
