Before we get to the 2022 results, let's take a quick look back: What have been the top trends in continuing education so far? Looking at the trend assessments from recent years, it becomes clear which ones are true perennial favorites and which trends only flare up briefly.

Every year, the mmb Institute surveys around 70 experts in professional digital learning in the DACH region: Which trends do you attribute high importance to for the coming years? Trend Monitor 2021: Corona and Home Office Change a Lot
By 2021 at the latest, it was clear: we must design continuing education independently of on-site presence. Against the backdrop of the Covid pandemic, it is not surprising that blended learning received 100% agreement as the top learning format for the next 3 years.

Trend Monitor 2022: What Continuing Education Looks Like After the Pandemic
The top 3 trend topics in corporate learning should look familiar to you by now: They are true perennial favorites of the mmb study. What is exciting this year is that the corona panic is over and on-site presence is becoming more important again. Nevertheless, the pandemic has had a strong impact on professional continuing education: Many companies were able to see what is digitally possible – and where there is room for improvement.

What the trend means according to the study: 91.4% of respondents say that the "EduTuber" segment will continue to grow. EduTubers are subject matter experts who create videos alongside their teaching activities and upload them to YouTube. Corporate trainers can then purchase these videos. 72% of respondents also say that explainer videos can be a good source of revenue.
Tip for HR professionals and trainers: Either you buy videos for your e-learning – or you shoot them internally yourself! YouTube is not a platform for glossy image films, which is why most EduTubers are not professional filmmakers either. If you or someone in your team wants to shoot your own videos, we can only say: Go for it! You don't need expensive equipment or years of experience in video production.
The most important thing is good audio and an authentic appearance! Then, videos are not only a sustainable method in e-learning but also offer a high personal factor.
Learning Trend No. 2: Micro-Credentials
What the trend means according to the study: There is 77% agreement with the statement "In principle, micro-credentials increase the attractiveness of informal learning". This refers to mini-certificates intended to motivate self-directed learners.
Tip for HR professionals and trainers: "Micro" is not just a trend since this year. Micro-credentials also embody the idea of promoting self-directed learning with short content and quick rewards. After all, keeping participants motivated remains the biggest challenge in e-learning.
Learning Trend No. 3: Blended Learning
What the trend means according to the study: Although hard to believe with 91% agreement, blended learning has actually decreased slightly in importance compared to the previous year (100%). However, blended learning has been stable among the top trends in the trend monitor for over 10 years (!). You can hardly call it a "trend" anymore! Let's phrase it differently: Blended learning clearly belongs to the standard repertoire of modern continuing education.
