What prerequisites must I meet for e-learning to succeed in my company? This question is currently being posed by many HR professionals. ONE skill of your employees is absolutely essential. What that is, you can find out here:
The Corona crisis was a quick start towards digital learning for many companies. Many training managers are now even more focused on the various possibilities of e-learning. Topics such as increasing learning motivation, organizing learning processes, and controlling learning success are high on the to-do list for many HR professionals.
However, it is often forgotten that it is not only about the competencies of the instructors: your employees also need to meet a few prerequisites as participants. Education expert André Niedostadek reveals in a conversation with t3n which skill is essential for successful e-learning:
The self-learning competence of your employees
But what does that actually mean? The competence for independent learning is characterized by the fact that learners increasingly take responsibility for their learning processes themselves and must independently structure the processes. They learn self-organized and at their own pace.
This skill is currently more important than ever, as the immediate contact between the instructor and learners is lost more quickly in digital learning. As a result, your employees receive less direct feedback on their learning status.
The self-learning competence consists of various central tasks that your employees must manage themselves in e-learning. This has been summarized by Christoph Meier from the scil Institute of the University of St. Gallen – here’s a small excerpt:
Set goals: What do I want to be able to do and what can I learn through the course?
Analyze current situation: Where am I and what do I bring with me?
Check motivation: Why do I want to learn this now?
Plan learning opportunities: When do I have time for a short learning phase?
Practice what I have learned: Where can I apply my new skills?
As you can see, the success of your e-learning measures does not solely depend on your preparation and planning. Your employees also play a central role: Therefore, prepare them well for this new way of learning and encourage the individual self-learning competence of your employees. A detailed guide to promoting self-learning competence can be found, for example, here at the Research Institute for Corporate Education.
