Is online support worth it for me?

Blended Learning

You have come up with a good seminar. Your participants are convinced of your valuable and exciting content. But how can you support your seminar participants even after the seminar is over? After all, your client wants the skills you teach in your seminar to be implemented in practice. With the help of online support, you can enhance your training measures online. But is online support worth it for you?

How are your online contents used in online support?

The online contents are the essence of your online support. The online contents can be used in the preparation, support, or in the follow-up of trainings and seminars. Your online contents are provided to your participants as text, in the form of PowerPoint slides, as quizzes, or as video messages. For example, you create short summaries of your most important methods and send them automatically to your participants. This way, the participants retain the content of your exercises and methods. Without these brief reminders, the seminar content is quickly forgotten.

In the support of trainings, videos are particularly valuable. On the one hand, your participants get to see you again. Videos can be used for many different messages. You can summarize three essential points or create a motivating message about an exercise. In any case, you present yourself with your personal impact as a trainer.

Perhaps one or another participant has a question about an exercise. These questions often arise only when the participant practices at their workplace. In your online support, the participant has the chance to review the relevant information or to ask you or other participants for advice. Make the transfer process part of your training! If you need inspiration, take a look at this pilot study from the Freiburg Institute on the topic of transfer coaching. For example, you can send your participants reflection questions between two seminar sessions and discuss the results in the following meeting. There are many great ways to use online support for greater learning success and more practical transfer. The Neu-Ulm University has published a comprehensive report on transfer barriers and supporting measures (page 29 provides a great overview).

Another advantage for you: You can automate online support. Especially when the support continues over several weeks. One to two online contents per week is a good guideline. After all, you don't want to overwhelm your participants with too much content. All online contents that you have created once can easily be copied. This saves you a lot of work and time. You can combine different online contents for different groups. Online support plus additional offers (such as phone coaching or on-the-job individual coaching) is a good way to expand your training offerings. This way, you have the chance to offer your clients customized services and expand your client base. If you create customized online support for a client, you can charge them per participant.

Checklist: Is online support the right extension for my training offer?

Do I have a clear topic?

Is there added value for my clients in accompanying them over several weeks?

Do I have exercises or methods that my participants should learn?

Can I wrap these exercises into short calls to action?

Do I have access to the right clients?

Are my clients willing to pay for personal or individualized support?

Do I want to learn to work with online media or can I already do that?

Can I work with videos? Do I want to learn that?

Do I have a rough concept for my online support?

Do I have ideas on how to monetize my online support?
