Learning formats for your digital training at a glance

Tip of the Week

Trainer

Blended Learning, learning videos, or online coaching – you are surely already familiar with these and other digital learning formats. But how do they differ? The “systematic of learning formats” brings clarity and helps you choose a suitable learning format for your training:

In the past, we have already reported extensively on the various digital learning methods. Nevertheless, many trainers still find it difficult to classify them: Which formats are particularly individual? Which require a lot of self-responsibility? And which learning formats are universally applicable?

The mmb Institute publishes a graphic every year in which they classify the different digital learning formats. The systematic of learning formats has been newly structured this year: It contains more than 20 different digital learning formats. However, based on our experience, not all learning formats are well suited for training or coaching in continuing education.

Therefore, in the following graphic, we have classified the most important learning formats for training into the systematic. This gives you a simple and quick overview:

Use the systematic to choose the right learning format for your training:

  • Firstly, decide whether your digital training format should be highly structured or if you want to offer a self-directed learning process.

  • In the second step, consider whether your participants should learn as individually as possible or learn together.

  • Universal formats like an online platform or learning library are suitable for almost all training and topics. They can serve as your basis for many other methods.
