E-Learning Trends: Successful Digital Education in 2021

E-Learning

Company

In 2021, further education will predominantly take place digitally – but that doesn’t mean learning will be boring! We present you with proven tips from practice on how to make e-learning diverse and still efficient:

Last year, many HR professionals had to quickly rethink and act due to the current situation. Digital solutions were needed! These will also remain with us in 2021. To ensure that your training measures are also successful digitally, we have compiled our best e-learning methods and tips from practice in companies for you.

1. The Basis: A Suitable Learning Culture

In many companies, digital training is still uncharted territory and was only introduced during the pandemic. Many responsible individuals therefore do not know where to start. Before you begin to conceptualize content and look for a suitable learning platform, you should ensure a proper learning culture in the company! It is important to involve everyone in the company in e-learning. Only this way will digital training gain acceptance.

2. Variety: Less Text in Learning Content

Many employees in your company are probably also working from home. This means that the majority of people are spending significantly longer in front of their computer screens. More and more employees are complaining about feelings of digital fatigue and desire less screen time. Therefore, try to use different media in e-learning and intentionally incorporate exercises that do not take place on the screen.

Another option is to actively involve your employees. Let employees create content themselves (User Generated Content). Also, focus on easily consumable content such as infographics, checklists, or short learning videos. Trainers can easily create learning videos with their smartphones, using inexpensive equipment and minimal time investment.

3. Microlearning: A Learning Classic

If you have a good learning culture as a foundation, you can move on to the content. Keep in mind that you should not overwhelm your employees in digital training. After all, they are used to attending in-person events and are often unaccustomed to digital learning. For the introduction to e-learning, you should therefore focus on small, self-contained learning units (microlearning). You don’t have to start from scratch: Simply use the content from the in-person events and save a lot of time.

4. Learning Times: Individualizing Digital Training

Without in-person events, there are no fixed learning times. This also makes training more flexible. Allow your employees to decide for themselves when and how they want to learn. After all, they all have different preferences that cannot be optimally combined in person. The solution: Create learning times for all employees.

Give your employees the responsibility for their learning process in e-learning. Also, provide them with the most important tool: self-learning competence.

5. Simple Technology: More Motivation Through Fewer Barriers

For most people, the transition to digital work and home office was an enormous challenge. Many employees had to learn new programs and deal with more technology in general. For your training measures, you should therefore rely on as simple technology as possible. This makes the leap into e-learning easier. Additionally, gather all important information centrally in one place (in a folder or online course) so that your employees can easily access it.

For example, create a digital knowledge collection that all employees can access at any time: With Learning on Demand, your employees learn in the work situation and therefore do not need explicit training courses.
