More structure for your learning videos? It’s that easy!

To make your presentations as concise as possible, you don’t need any special talent or years of practice. A simple tool is sufficient to help you plan your content.

This tool was developed by Ariane Willikonsky – the Speaker Clock. It is a simple tool that allows you to design high-quality short videos in a very short time.

The Speaker Clock is a helpful communication tool for structuring speeches and texts. It is a step-by-step guide that gives your content a clear structure while considering all important aspects.

The Speaker Clock addresses six simple questions to you. These help you to

  • formulate a very focused core message,

  • derive a call to action from it, and

  • direct the call to action effectively at your audience.

You can see exactly how this works in the following example:

Example: Use the Speaker Clock for your training introduction

Have you ever wondered how to introduce your online courses or videos in general? We will show you how to skillfully use the Speaker Clock for this purpose with an example.

To present your content well-structured, you should write a short script. It helps to write down the following six questions of the Speaker Clock in short sentences:

The 6 Questions of the Speaker Clock

  1. Who are you?

  2. What is your topic?

  3. Who is your topic suitable for?

  4. How does it work? Or: How do you apply it?

  5. What is the goal of your topic?

  6. What comes next? (Call to action)

Tips from Speaker Clock inventor Ariane Willikonsky: “First, develop your core messages based on the questions. Then answer each of the six questions with one to two short sentences. You emphasize your impact by taking a brief pause after each section and making eye contact with your participants or the camera. Start your video with a friendly engagement and end it with a concrete call to action.”

How to implement these steps in your video is shown by blink.it colleague Claudia:

Curious? The course for which Claudia made the example video is our studio@home online course for shooting videos in your own four walls.

Claudia's example clearly shows how the Speaker Clock provides a framework for the content of her online course. Were you able to recognize the six different steps of the Speaker Clock in the structure of her welcome video?

With this structure, it becomes significantly easier for you to design videos: You get a kind of roadmap that you can constantly refer to! This way, you eliminate uncertainty and can focus on your actual goal – creating good and precise content.

Of course, the Speaker Clock can also be used outside of video contexts! You can also use the tool in your in-person events to convey your content more convincingly. Try it out yourself and apply the Speaker Clock for the welcome of your next in-person event or shoot a video for your online course!

And a second important lesson from the example: A video does not have to be perfect – the most important thing is the content and an authentic, pleasant demeanor! 🙂
