The trend towards blended learning has now become a consistent topic in studies on further education and learning methods. The current MMB Learning Delphi trend study has discovered another potential source of revenue: the use of explanatory videos.

"The level of agreement for explanatory videos is higher than for any other tool for digital learning."

Approximately 93% of all surveyed experts indicated that videos play a central role as a form of learning in companies. Blended learning remains, as in previous years, undisputed in first place for the most important forms of learning with 97% agreement.

Explanatory Videos as Future Source of Revenue

Many trainers are already successfully using videos and explanatory films. Some want to completely restart or optimize their videos. One question is obvious: What should I consider when producing videos?

3 Tips for Creating Videos

1. Clear Sound

The speaker must be easily understandable so that the viewer feels as if they are standing right next to them.

2. Bright Light

The image quality depends heavily on good lighting!

3. Lots of Stability

Shaky videos appear unprofessional; therefore, use a stable surface or holder.

Blended Learning Steadily in First Place of Important Learning Trends

The MBB trend monitor has been showing trends in the continuing education and media industry annually since 1999. Respondents have regularly been asked since 2006 as part of the Learning Delphi trend study to assess whether the mentioned forms of learning, applications, and technologies will have a rather central or a rather minor significance for corporate learning in the following three years.

In the last five years, the agreement with blended learning as a future trend has consistently been over 95%. The runner-up positions two to five, on the other hand, fluctuate much more. This year, alongside the aforementioned videos, microlearning (93% agreement), mobile applications (92%), and virtual classrooms (92%) are also in focus for future forms of learning. Following that, the web-based trainings have only 70% agreement. In last place in 2018 was microblogging with 14% agreement.

In the table, you can see the top six positions of the study and the last position for comparison. The complete study can be viewed in the trend monitor.

Advantages of Microlearning

Microlearning refers to a learning concept where content is prepared in a compressed form. This way, the participant can learn quickly and efficiently. What you need to consider when creating micro-content is described here: Microlearning: 3 Rules for Creating Learning Nuggets

Advantages of Mobile Applications

For apps that work well on mobile devices, the participant can learn very autonomously. If they can access the learning materials from anywhere on the go, whether on the train or waiting at the airport, they are significantly more flexible than with pure desktop applications.

Advantages of Virtual Classrooms

Virtual classrooms have also been a trend in the continuing education sector for several years. Here, participants and trainers experience personal exchange without having to travel far. Some trainers therefore link webinars with online support to make learning possible around the clock.

This combination of webinars and online support is just as much a form of blended learning as the linking of workshops or seminars with online support.

Observing Trends in the Continuing Education Sector

By the way: In the Learning Delphi trend study, 61 experts from the DACH region were surveyed for the twelfth time in 2018. These came from research institutions, e-learning providers, users, and the trade press.

The Industry 4.0 is still considered a driver for the introduction of digital learning. Changes in companies due to new production and work methods also influence the forms and methods of commercial continuing education.

Trainings and coaching have remained relatively stable over the last few years, but those who want to be successful in the long term should at least keep an eye on current trends and changes in corporate structures.
