The trend towards blended learning has now become a constant topic in studies related to further education and learning methods. The current mmb Learning Delphi trend study has discovered another potential source of income: the use of explanatory videos.

“No other tool for digital learning receives as much approval as explanatory videos.”

About 93% of all surveyed experts stated that videos play a central role as a learning form in companies. Blended learning remains unchallenged in the past years with 97% approval as the most important learning method.

Explanatory videos as a source of income for the future

Many trainers are already successfully using videos and explanatory films. Some want to start fresh or optimize their videos. One question is obvious: What should I consider when producing videos?

3 tips for creating videos

1. Clear sound

The speaker must be easily understandable, so that the viewer has the impression that he is standing right next to him.

2. Bright light

The image quality largely depends on good lighting!

3. A lot of stability

Shaky videos appear unprofessional, so use a stable surface or holder.

How you can easily implement these and a few more tips is explained – via explanatory video – in our free online course studio@home!

Blended learning steadily in first place of the most important learning trends

The mbb trend monitor has annually shown trends in the further education and media industry since 1999. Respondents have been regularly asked to assess whether the learning forms, applications, and technologies mentioned will have a rather central or a rather low importance for operational learning in the following three years since 2006 as part of the Learning Delphi trend study.

In the last five years, the approval for blended learning as a future trend has remained consistently above 95%. The following positions two to five, on the other hand, fluctuate much more. This year, alongside the aforementioned videos, microlearning (93% approval), mobile applications (92%), and virtual classrooms (92%) are in focus as future learning forms. Following closely are the web-based trainings with only 70% approval. In last place in 2018 was micro-blogging with 14% approval.

In the table, you can see the top six places of the study and the last place for comparison. The complete study can be viewed in the trend monitor.

Advantages of microlearning

Microlearning refers to a learning concept where content is prepared in a compressed form. This allows participants to learn quickly and efficiently. What you need to consider when creating micro-content is described here: Microlearning: 3 rules for creating learning bites

Advantages of mobile applications

For apps that work well on mobile, participants can learn very independently. When they can access learning content from anywhere, such as while waiting at the airport or on public transport, they are significantly more flexible than with purely desktop applications.

Advantages of virtual classrooms

Virtual classrooms have also been trending in the further education industry for several years. Here, participants and trainers experience personal exchange without having to travel far. Some trainers therefore connect webinars with online support to enable learning around the clock.

This combination of webinars and online support is just as much a form of blended learning as the combination of workshops or seminars with online support. You can learn more about the options and how to get started with blended learning in our free guide.

Observing trends in the further education industry

By the way: In the 2018 Learning Delphi trend study, 61 experts from the DACH region were surveyed for the twelfth time. These came from research institutions, e-learning providers, users, and the trade press.

The driver for the introduction of digital learning continues to be Industry 4.0. Changes in companies due to new production and working methods also impact the forms and methods of vocational training.

Training and coaching have remained relatively stable in recent years, but anyone who wants to be successful in the long term should keep an eye on current trends and changes in corporate structures.
